Dance Attire

In keeping with classical ballet tradition and to achieve a uniformity of appearance in Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy, a strict dress code is followed.

Hair Requirements for all students:  All girls with hair chin length or longer must wear their hair in a traditional ballet bun for every class. Girls and boys with very short hair must have their hair secured neatly off their face in a way that will not distract from class (headbands are not recommended because they fall out easily when children dance). Boys with long hair must secure it back in a neat ponytail for class.  Instructions and photos of required ballet hair, for all lengths can be found here.

Class Attire for Children's Division (Creative Movement and Pre-Ballet)
Boys: black shorts or tights, white t-shirt, black ballet shoes with white socks
Girls: plain, short sleeve white leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes
Style numbers are not specific for short sleeve white leotards

Class Attire for Student Division (Ballet I-VII) and Academy
Boys: black tights, plain white T-shirt, white socks, black ballet shoes
Girls: pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black leotards as listed

Ballet I–V: short sleeve black leotard Capezio TB132c or TB133
Black character shoes are required for Ballet IV & V; Character skirts will be provided.

Ballet VI–Academy II: camisole black leotard Capezio TB1420c or TB1420
Black jazz shoes and black jazz pants are required for jazz class.
Black footless tights are required for modern class.

       Students in Ballet VII, Pre-Academy, Academy I and Academy II must bring their own yoga mat to each class

Class Attire for Open Division
Appropriate dance attire in color and style of student’s choice. Can include leotard and tights or form fitting exercise wear such as pants and fitness top.  Ballet shoes are required for ballet class. Jazz shoes are required for jazz class. Tap shoes are required for tap class.
