Student Division - Intermediate Level

Student Division - Intermediate Level

The Intermediate Level begins with Ballet IV. Students continue to learn ballet techniques and are introduced to character dance in Ballet IV and Ballet V. Jazz dance is introduced in Ballet VI and Ballet VII. Ladies are introduced to pointe work in Ballet VI, and Ballet VII is the progression into the second year of pointe training. Training in the Intermediate Level becomes more demanding of the dance student. It is not unusual for students to remain in a class level for a number of years. Students training on pointe must attend class 3 times per week.

Research from the Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee indicates children who are given adequate opportunities to move and exercise in developmental movement patterns have brains better primed for learning.  Students engaged in dance have higher levels of academic achievement, problem-solving skills, creativity, and physical coordination.  Most high school students enrolled at Milwaukee Ballet School have outstanding grades, time management and self-discipline skills that have developed over their many years of training at Milwaukee Ballet School.

Viewing dance performances is an important part of the training of dance students. Fully registered Intermediate Level students receive a free ticket to each Friday evening performance of Milwaukee Ballet’s 2011-12 season (excluding The Nutcracker). It is an opportunity for students to attend performances as a social group with their peers and instructors.

Students in the Intermediate Level will perform in the bi-annual showcase production of Alice in Wonderland on June 2-3, 2012.
