Pre-Professional - Academy
Milwaukee Ballet School’s Acadmey program is designed for the serious dance student interested in and willing to commit to intensive study in a variety of dance styles. Students are invited into the program by teacher recommendation, upon the completion of Ballet VII. Classes include Ballet, Pointe, Partnering, Variations, Jazz, Modern, and Pilates. Students are challenged technically as these levels prepare them for performance and further progress in dance training. Attention to detail and artistry is of the utmost importance.
Research from the Dance Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee indicates children who are given adequate opportunities to move and exercise in developmental movement patterns have brains better primed for learning. Students engaged in dance have higher levels of academic achievement, problem-solving skills, creativity, and physical coordination. Most high school students enrolled at Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy have outstanding grades, time management and self-discipline skills that have developed over their many years of training at Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy.
Viewing dance performances is an important part of the training of dance students. Fully registered Pre-Professional students receive a free ticket to each Friday evening performance of the Milwaukee Ballet’s 2011-12 season (excluding The Nutcracker). It is a learning experience for students to attend performances as a social group with their peers and instructors.

As students reach the Academy level it is important to develop performance skills while continuing to study technique. Academy students will have several performance and outreach opportunities throughout the year. Every effort will be made to rehearse for these performances outside of class time, however it may be necessary to use class time on occasion. Participation in performances and outreach opportunities is strongly encouraged. Students unable to participate in the performance may take a make-up class or understudy performance roles when class time is used for rehearsals.
