Kim Johnson
Faculty
Kim began her dance training at Northern Michigan Dance Academy in her hometown Kingsford, MI. She received additional training at Central Wisconsin School of Ballet. Her love for dance inspired her to go to college and major in dance. In 2000, Kim graduated with high honors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BFA in dance. Her own choreography represented UW-M at the American College Dance Festival.
Upon graduation, Kim joined the faculty of the Milwaukee Ballet School. Kim’s training and experience in many forms of dance and movement enabled her to teach various classes including creative movement thru Ballet IV, adult ballet classes, modern technique to students in the academy level thru Milwaukee Ballet II, composition, Pilates (mat certified in 2004), and dance fitness (a class she created for the school). She is proud to be the dance instructor for the Wilson Center Arts Camp, an interdisciplinary arts camp, since it beginning in 2003. In addition to being on faculty, Kim served as branch manager at the school’s Sharon Lynn Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield and Children’s Division Coordinator. She helped create the modern technique and creative movement curriculum for the school. Kim choreographed 3 pieces for the Nancy Einhorn Milwaukee Ballet II program.
Still an active performer and choreographer, Kim is currently dancing her tenth season with Danceworks Performance Company. She has created five pieces for the company and acted as rehearsal director. She has worked with choreographers such as Sean Curran, Ben Munisteri, Heidi Latsky, Janet Lilly, Simone Ferro, and Allyson Green just to name a few.
Kim is also a dance lecturer at UW-Milwaukee where she teaches modern technique.
